DR SOPHIE CELLO LAB:
SPRING INTENSIVE

In this short video, I explain how the Spring

Intensive helps adult cellists move from

frustrating practice to reliable, confident playing…

Transform Your Practice

into Progress & Expressive Playing

APRIL 1 - JUNE 30

Enrollment is now closed.

...to be the first to know when enrollment opens for the next Cello Lab,

"THE QUIET ART OF A BEAUTIFUL SOUND" (running July through September)

Does This Sound Familiar?

You start practicing a difficult passage and things quickly begin to fall apart

  • Your fingers hesitate

  • Your coordination slips.

  • Rhythm become a mere “suggestion”

  • The passage feels unstable — especially when the tempo increases or when you encounter unfamiliar music.

Even experienced adult musicians run into this challenge.

Often the issue isn’t motivation or effort...

It’s the lack of a clear system for approaching difficult passages and integrating skills into real music.

Practice With Clarity

— Instead of Guessing

What if you had a clear method for:

• Breaking down complicated passages so they become manageable
• Practicing in a way that builds coordination and reliability
• Strengthening your technique through focused scale and arpeggio work
• Applying those skills directly to real repertoire like the Prelude from Bach’s 3rd Cello Suite
• Tracking measurable progress in your playing

This is exactly what the Spring Cello Intensive is designed to help you do.

What Makes This Intensive Different

This program is not about collecting more ideas or information.

It is about guided implementation.

Each shared skill builds on the previous one so that your practice develops in a logical and supportive sequence. Instead of wondering what to do next, you will have a clear pathway for building reliable technique and expressive playing.

You will not be collecting ideas.
You will be building skill.

Transformation: From Frustration to Confident Playing

Before the Intensive

  • Difficult passages feel inconsistent and frustrating

  • Practice sessions feel scattered or uncertain

  • Technical exercises don’t always translate to real music

  • Tempo increases cause passages to fall apart

  • Progress feels slow or unclear

After the Intensive

  • You know how to break down passages efficiently

  • Practice sessions follow a clear structure and purpose

  • Technical work supports the music you’re actually playing

  • Challenging passages feel coordinated and reliable

  • You see measurable improvement in your repertoire, including the Prelude from Bach’s 3rd Cello Suite

The goal is not perfection.

The goal is reliable, confident playing you can trust, even in passages that used to feel impossible.

What You’ll Work On During the Intensive

April — Breaking Down Difficult Passages

Learn practical strategies to simplify complicated music and approach unfamiliar sections with clarity and control. Focus on identifying challenges in the Prelude and other repertoire.

May — Building Strong Foundations

Develop fingerboard fluency, intonation, and coordination through focused scale and arpeggio work.

Apply foundational skills to passages from the Prelude and your other repertoire.

June — Applying Skills to Real Music

Integrate the techniques you’ve built directly into your repertoire and ensemble playing.

We will work specifically on the Prelude from Bach’s 3rd Cello Suite, turning technical strategies into confident, musical performance.
